Top of the Wolds this June!

Our new Logo!

Well what a wet month June is! Even though we are on a hill, quite a high one, we had a bit of a flood in the pump house so ironically we had a hiccup in the water supply! Not for long though and it was bailed out and expertly repaired at no inconvenience to Poachers guests...

The weather didn't worry the Banovallum Duke of Edinburgh students, they camped up here the other weekend and the weather was, well horrific to say the least! They walked miles some got lost all got wet!

Yep we have a new logo, because we have officially launched our campground - Top of The Wolds!

Retro Camping.

A campsite with amazing all around views, this best describes ‘Top of the Wolds’, our campground for caravans, motorhomes and tents, all here at Poachers Hideaway!

You can enjoy sunrises and sunsets on, Top of the Wolds, while experiencing tranquility at its best.
Also, with little light pollution our sky’s can be ablaze with stars!

We have provision for six caravans/motorhomes with electric and water hookup. We also have the luxury of a shower block and toilet facilities.

Our prices range from £10 per night for a single camper in a tent, to £25 per night for a caravan or motorhome with full electric hook up.

Why not pop up for a fishing holiday? Our well stocked carp lakes are available to you…

Fishermen, women and children of all ages and abilities are invited to fish our lakes.

It is essentially coarse fishing with Carp (up to 25lbs), Tench, Roach and Bream but do not be surprised if you land the odd Brown Trout as there are a few in there, just to keep the small fry down. Poachers Hideaway lakes are for the exclusive use of our guests and fishing is open.

There are no “pegs”, we simply ask that you treat both the sport and habitat with respect and that children are accompanied by a responsible adult as the water is very deep in places. The fish are partial to tinned potatoes, sweet corn and bread.

Willow Lodge is a fully enclosed glass lodge; where non-angling party members can sit and enjoy the views without getting their feet wet!

This also provides an ideal area for a BBQ. Local angling shops include the Horncastle Angling Centre that can be found on North Street

Please note the following:
•  £20 per rod (£5 for juniors).
•  The use of ground bait is not permitted
•  No keepnets
•  Barbless hooks only to be used
•  All fish to be returned to the lakes

We welcome Duke of Edinburgh award expeditions, our location is perfectly situated to accommodate such events.

Poachers Hideaway is the perfect place to explore, relax, unwind and enjoy the natural beauty of the countryside as said many times before.

We have had another welcome addition up here at Poachers Hideaway, she was born last week...

A sweet little lady resting her long legs!

The Shire horses are increasing in numbers, and are very popular with guests and residents alike.

Our wild flowers are starting to look amazing, I think its going to be a bumper crop this year. In a couple of weeks they will be at there best.

The weather seams to be very favourable to the crops around Poachers Hideaway, this field of barley along the Viking Way is beautiful!

Going to finish with a stunning sunset shot by Poachers budding photographer Leah....

Post Bluebells and running Roe Deer

Well what wonderful weather we have had all week! Up until now...
We have been really busy up here with full occupancy of our holiday cottages. Its great to be able to hang the washing out to dry as much as we can, and obviously this also helps toward our continuing ethic of being environmentally friendly.

Bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) by C Whitling

Poachers Hideaway friend Chris Whitling photographed our amazing crop of Bluebells this year.
They have died off now but lots of other beautiful wild flowers are making their way through the undergrowth, there will be many flower photos to follow over the next few weeks!

Poachers Hideaway residents Destiny and Leah also enjoyed wandering around the bluebells, Leah a keen photographer was directing her sister and resident Ringo to model for her... one of her clients managed to follow instruction!

Directing.
Ignoring!

The Bluebells have gone for another year but there is much more to see in our little area of outstanding beauty, we seem to have a lot of Roe deer this year (Capreolus capreolus)

We love dogs up here at Poachers Hideaway and welcome them all in our cottages. We have a house guest this week, Jenny a lovely black lab she enjoys bounding around the fields and playing with all the other residents animal or human!

Tractor Run Photo Special

Arriving at Poachers Hideaway for a spot of lunch
Poachers Hideaway hosted the Lions Club annual Tractor Run this weekend for lunch, and what a beautiful day to have such an event!
Over fifty tractors, some old some new left Peacock and Binningtons in Louth on a days run around the wonderful Lincolnshire Wolds, all for charity. They arrived up here at around 1pm for pork rolls and cake and parked on our camping site to take in the amazing views we have.
Lots of photos to follow...

Borders Pots and fishing piers!

We have been very busy up here at Poachers Hideaway over the last couple of weeks building fishing piers for our well stocked ponds. This will enable our disabled guests to enjoy hooking carp also...
lots of landscaping going on also around the ponds with seeding and various tree planting.

Our green fingered resident Bridget has worked wonders with the pots and troughs around the cottages! There will certainly be a mass of wonderful colours for all to enjoy for the months to come...

Each cottage is displaying a lovely bloom!

Fishermans cottage is also getting a makeover! Work in progress but much artistic landscaping going on..
